Buckle up, kiddos! This week, we're going on a little trip down under; so grab your sunscreen and a baseball bat, because everything wants to kill you in Australia! We're coming at you with another of our now infamous Patreon picks, and this go 'round the haomies wanted us to review 2017's Killing Ground. "Sam and Ian take off on what they believe will be a peaceful camping trip. Their break turns into a battle for survival when they discover a bloody toddler wandering around in the bush and find that an incredibly disturbing crime has been committed." Join us as we ponder some of life's most perplexing questions. For example: is there really a difference between Australians and the folks from New Zealand? Are acts of violence and just as offensive if they happen offscreen, or is it worse because your mind connects the dots for you? If you spike an infant in the end zone, does that count as excessive celebration? You haven't changed, I see. You've always loved violence. It's the Who Goes There Podcast episode 130! #Brainwaves Episode 65 – 2nd Annual LIVE Halloween Investigation: Terror at the 10th Avenue Arts Center LISTEN NOW!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Thu Nov 02 11:47:20 PDT 2017
It's that special time of year again, kids! Joe, Creepy, Debi, and Sarah broadcasted LIVE from a reportedly super haunted location - San Diego's 10th Avenue Arts Center - as part of their "Terror at the 10th" Halloween celebration! It was a pretty wild damned time and you can find the Facebook Live videos right here! They're also embedded below. Of note there was some really odd sounds happening in the room I was broadcasting from which was mainly empty. They are loud enough to be audible to the listener. They happened at the following time stamps: 2:20:36 - A loud bang 2:26:50 - Some strange scratching or "whooshing" sound 2:28:59 - Another strange scratching or "whooshing" sound Haunted History of the 10th Avenue Arts Center via Haunted San Diego: The 10th Tenth Avenue Arts Center is currently located at 930 10th Avenue, San Diego, California 92101, a parcel that once housed part of the First Baptist Church of San Diego (a great sized complex). The Church was conceived in the mid 1800′s; however, the original church building at Tenth Avenue and E Street was not completed until 1888. First Baptist Church eventually sold the property and moved to a new location in 1997. First Baptist Church of San Diego (FBCSD) is still in operation almost 127 years later and is now located at 5055 Governor Drive, San Diego, CA. Claims of the Paranormal or Ghosts at the Current 10th Tenth Avenue Arts Center: According to the 10th Avenue Arts Center website, four ghosts are suspected to haunt various portions of the building. Of the four, three of those haunts are intensely specific: The ghost of a British lieutenant The falling death of a girl named Missy A suicidal, grief-stricken Baptist pastor The suspected ghost hauntings at the 10th Tenth Avenue Arts Center gained public attention after a short interview with Association of Paranormal Studies (APS) founder Alex Matsuo on local station KPBS back in October 2012. Since then the owners of the theater have invited several local paranormal groups out to the location, possibly in an attempt to offer guided ghost tours of the location in the near future. So, is the theater haunted, and are the historic stories accurate or just urban legends? San Diego Haunted contacted Jeff Cotta from the 10th Avenue Arts Center website to learn more about the stories posted. This was the response, “The stories were passed on to us from some of the First Baptist Church folks as they were hauling their stuff out of the building back in ’97 (when we purchased the property).” SDH then attempted to contact the current congregation officials for First Baptist Church; unfortunately, every attempt has failed, other than basic cordiality. We then turned back to the specific stories of Missy and the grief-stricken pastor to find any records to validate the claims. A young girl named Linda Jo “Missy” Holterhaus did die in San Diego in the correct time frame. However, it was unlikely she was the person of interest in the story (death records are pending). We were also unable to turn up any news stories about suicidal priests and/or persons falling to death at the First Baptist Church building. Neither of the two head pastors from First Baptist Church (1958-70) killed themselves. The men lived to be 85 (John Bunyan Smith) and 94 (Pieter Smit). The story of the inspirational speech rings true but it was given by Pieter Smit and it was on the fly as he had already published his planned sermon for the week in the Evening Tribune. The fact that the story links his secretary and sermon together draws the obvious conclusion that the story refers to Pieter himself and not another lower pastor, deacon, or entity. In all our efforts San Diego Haunted is left with nothing more than verbal stories passed from one owner to the next. We will continue to look into the stories. SUPPORT BRAINWAVES ON PATREON!

Buckle up, dummies! We're about to talk real smart about a real dumb movie! Why are these Patreon picks such volatile powder kegs?! For this month's episode, our haomie Rob Dilauro was gracious enough to choose the delightful jungle romp that is 1987's Predator. In what may be one of the biggest shit shows we're capable of producing, we injected testosterone into our eyeballs and still couldn't come up with 2% of the dick-swinging, chaw-chewing, bicep-flexing machismo madness that is Predator. Who Goes There Podcast: Episode 124 – August Underground
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Jul 21 06:50:23 PDT 2017
When we first started this show, Matt had intended for the show to be a platform to introduce people to the really depraved horror films they had most likely never heard of. While we may have shifted the focus of the show to a slightly more digestible format, Matt and our pal Danny are constantly trying to sneak one of these films into the Who Goes There review schedule; this is one of those episodes. Be forewarned, some of you delicate types may be "triggered" by some of the content of this week's discussion. This film is obscenity in a nutshell. This little piece of cinema has enough nudity, blood, guts, fecal material, assault, abuse, and murder to make almost anyone feel like they need a scalding hot shower. Is this film a despicable piece of trash that should never see the light of day? Or is it possible that this blood soaked 71 minutes could be an important piece of horror history? This, is August Underground. If you like what you hear, please consider joining our Patreon subscribers. How Much Black Licorice Does It Take To Overdose?

The trinity of divisive Halloween candies is made up of candy corn, marshmallow peanuts, and of course black licorice — perhaps the treat most likely to elicit either only joy or rage when it’s put into one’s candy sack. by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Jul 28 04:16:53 PDT 2017
It's hotter than two goats in a pepper patch here in San Diego, and things get heated on this week's episode of the Who Goes There Podcast. Tensions are high as we embark on yet another one of our now infamous Patreon episodes. This month's pick is brought to us by the long time haomie Jennifer Barloon. Jennifer decided there was no better way to combine Matt's love of Katherine Isabelle, and Jorge's love of the Soska sisters than to have the gang review 2012's American Mary. Join us, as we take a look at some of the trailers and big announcements to come out of Comic Con 2017, including Stranger Things Season 2, and American Horror Story: Cult. In addition, Matt regales us with his account of Comic Con, the celebrity he spent the weekend stalking, and what the official scent of Comic Con is. I'm the poison. I designed the outer shell. Hear ye! Hear ye! Step right up and feast your aural skin flaps on episode 116 of the Who Goes There Podcast! This stunning episode on 201666's Don't Kill It is chock full of three part harmonies, alcohol abuse, Alien apprehension, flippant fuck flinging, the sounds of Susperia, and your daily dose of Dolph. Dolph Lundgren plays a grizzled demon hunter who, through a string of bizarre murders, tracks an ancient demon to a sleepy mountain town. The Swedish Dong Hammer then proceeds to fuck everything warm and wet, all while carrying a big ass net. Yeah, buddy. She thinks fellatio is a character in Shakespeare. Horrible Imaginings Podcast 179: BONUS Storytime “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Tue Oct 03 12:23:09 PDT 2017
In all the years I have done Storytime Edition episodes, I never did Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" because it just felt a little too obvious for some reason. I have been asked now for the third time to record a reading of it for the podcast, and I was even asked to read it in person to a friend recently. After all this, I am relenting. It is Halloween season, after all! I first read this poem when, in the 6th grade, my dad took me to Poe's grave and the Poe house in Baltimore, Maryland. At the house, they sold all kinds of tourist knick knacks, but the thing I wanted was a copy of "The Raven" that looked like it was written in script on aged paper. I read that thing over and over again. In many ways, "The Raven" is a sort of city poem of Baltimore. Even their football team is named after it. This is all rather funny--some might say even appropriate--since the poem is all about life-crushing grief and unending loss. The agony of despair. It is also lyrical and beautiful, if not unapologetically melodramatic. I get a little melodramatic while reading it. I decided to record this with no sound effects or music. Poe's words are music enough. Enjoy!

Gobble gobble, you turkeys! We're back with another dose of mediocrity for your ear pussies. This week, we're taking you on a "punk rock thrill ride"; at least that's what the poster says. Oh man, remember our old punk rock days of not showering, sticking safety pins through parts of our bodies, holding our hair up with wood glue, and drinking boxed wine until we fell asleep and used the remaining wine in a bag as a pillow? Oh wait, 68 Kill is about a guy with no self esteem dating a crazy stripper who could kill him at any moment? Well, shit. We're gonna do it anyway. It's just, it's been a while since someone's been horribly killed, and it seems like an opportune time for someone to be... well... offed. It’s the Who Goes There Podcast episode 141! We've really been hitting it out of the park lately with our live Facebook broadcasts, haven't we? On a brighter note, at least the podcast itself is still top shelf entertainment. Before doing this episode, I hadn't heard anything about 2016's Irish incarnation flick A Dark Song; no trailers, no reviews, nothing. Now people are talking about A Dark Song being among the best films of 2017. What?! "A grieving woman seeks the aid of an occultist in preparing for an ancient ritual." Horrible Imaginings Podcast #178: Start Halloween Season Right with Kill Creek Author Scott Thomas!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts

It is the last day of September, which means Halloween is knocking at the door and ready to fill our homes with all the scares that we have come to love since childhood. One of the classic Halloween images, of course, is that of the abandoned old haunted house silhouetted threateningly by a glowing full moon, promising the presence of phantoms and spirits just clamoring to chill our bones. Well, there is a brand new book hitting the shelves from Inkshares that gives us just the right kinds of Halloween-spirit thrills while throwing in some new twists, great characters, and even exploring the horror genre that we all love. That book is Kill Creek by first-time novelist Scott Thomas. Mr. Thomas was kind enough to take a break from his day job at--of all places--The Disney Channel--to talk haunted houses, his love of all kinds of horror, writing his characters, and more! Who Goes There Podcast: Ep 148 – Inside (2017 Remake)
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Sun Jan 21 03:42:49 PST 2018
We've all heard the old saying, "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Well, I'm here to tell you that's only partially true. It seems there is a third certainty that had been omitted from the original quote, "It is certain, if you enjoy a movie, at some point someone will remake that movie." Now is the time when one of my favorite movies gets reimagined, "for an American audience". In the late 2000's an explosion of "French extreme" horror films was released. Martyrs and or High Tension can often be found on any number of lists of the "most fucked up horror movies ever". Unfortunately, the vastly superior Inside is often forgotten (as well as Frontier(s), but that's a whole 'nother rant). Now, ten years after it's initial release, Inside has been Americanized. Don't worry, we watched it so you don't have to. You're welcome. Mommy says you're not dead. Is that true? It's the Who Goes There Podcast episode 148! Horrible Imaginings Podcast #184: M.F.A. Director Natalia Leite Subverts the Rape-Revenge Subgenre
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Jan 12 16:53:18 PST 2018
Rape Revenge films are perhaps the most replete with conflict for conscientious audience members who find themselves, for one reason or another, drawn to them. Whether people feel comfortable admitting it or not, this especially dark and often nasty subgenre is a lucrative one, with thousands of imitations and similar stories released worldwide. Some of the most notorious have been remade, including the Day of the Woman or I Spit on Your Grave remake launching a franchise of three films, and a sequel to the 1978 original, starring Camille Keaton and directed by the original’s Meir Zarchi set to come out this year. The profitability of rape revenge films has a lot of angry detractors, as well as a lot of supporters, a fact attributable not only to the sensationalistic and brutal nature of these movies, but also to the stark duality in their simple narrative structures. Are they about the rape or the revenge? How much time is devoted to each of those violent acts? These things have been discussed often, but one question that should always be asked is who is telling these stories and why? Earlier this year saw the release of a film that is listed as a psychological thriller, but is certainly a rape revenge film. It is called M.F.A., and it is written by Leah McKendrick, a woman also has a role in the film, and directed by Natalia Leite. In this film, Francesca Eastwood plays Noelle an art student who suffers a brutal rape at the hands of a fellow art major. Her experiences following this trauma lead to Noelle taking matters in her own hands. I am happy to say that Leite has decided to take some time to join me to discuss her thoughts behind this challenging project, and most importantly why it is important that women take charge of telling these stories. This episode will be in two parts, the first part being spoiler free before delving more deeply into the story of M.F.A. There will be plenty of warnings before we go too far into spoiler territory, but really you should check this film out anyway. It is available on blu-ray and VOD right now. Who Goes There Podcast: Telluride Horror Show 2017 Wrap-up

For the last eight years, darkness has descended on the quiet mountain town of Telluride, Colorado. I've said it before, I'll say it again: "The second weekend of October is my favorite weekend of the year." This is the weekend of the Telluride Horror Show! Set against a gorgeous backdrop of tree-lined, snow-covered mountaintops, the Telluride Horror Show has quickly cemented itself as one of the country's best horror film festivals. Alia and I were once again lucky enough to be invited to join in the festivities, and this year's event was even better than the last! Unfortunately, we forgot a very important piece of recording equipment back in San Diego, and we had to make the best of what we had. Fair warning... the audio quality is fine, just not up to the normal Who Goes There Podcast standards. Horrible Imaginings Podcast #181: Halloween Watchlists to Make You Shudder!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Wed Oct 25 11:23:25 PDT 2017
We are less than a week from Halloween, the best year of the night for us horror fans, and if you are anything like me you are planning on filling your days with even more horror films than usual in celebration. With all of the new and unprecedented access to more film titles than ever before, we can spend just as much (or more) time combing through lists and trying to make decisions than we do actually watching our favorite movies. That's why it can be a lot of help to have some solid curators around. In this episode I recruited two of the best curators around. The horror streaming service Shudder is the Halloween destination for all things horror, thriller and suspense. Horrible Imaginings Podcast #180: Rogue Artists Ensemble Puts YOU In A Japanese Ghost Story! Kaidan Project: Walls Grow Thin!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Sun Oct 15 11:31:36 PDT 2017
Oh boy, am I a sucker for a good Japanese ghost story. There is just something about them that resonates with me. I think it is the focus on spirits that exact a cruel form of justice and vengeance. The cold callousness mixed with an almost deserved karma. It speaks to me. I first read the English re-tellings of many of these ancient folklore by an author named Lafcadio Hearn, a sort of Brothers Grimm for Japanese supernatural stories, when I was in high school, and I have been entranced ever since. So imagine my immediate interest when I heard that this Halloween season would introduce a new immersive haunt experience based on these stories! It is a magnetic and innovative DIY production from Rogue Artists Ensemble and East West Players called Kaidan Project: Walls Grow Thin. In it, "you receive a letter from a woman who is haunted by a mysterious event in her past—and she needs your help. When you arrive at her family’s warehouse, you ascend to the fifth and sixth floors in a creaking freight elevator, followed by a voice that calls out through the shadows, drowning you in echoes of wells and engines and graveyards, in tangles of hair and snow, in sharp reflections of your darkest moments—a voice that may not be human." I got the chance to interview the director Sean T. Cawelti, co-writer Chelsea Sutton, and Jasmine Orpilla, one of the lead actors of this piece, after experiencing it myself. I also wanted to get another perspective on the experience, so I invited my friend Kim Garland to co-host this podcast with me. She is a brilliant filmmaker in her own right, and you can check out her stuff here. I am happy to have her with me to give her account of the performance (and to protect me from ghosts)! This will be a spoiler free look at the process of bringing this atmospheric, creepy, and classic stories to life in an immersive way that encourages audience participation. I encourage you to check it out if you are anywhere near Los Angeles! Subscribe to the Horrible Imaginings Podcast right here. #Brainwaves Episode 63: Paranormal Investigators Greg and Dana Newkirk: The Billy Idol Investigation! LISTEN NOW!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Wed Oct 11 22:53:03 PDT 2017
Strange things have been known to happen during the paranormal-themed episodes of Brainwaves, and Episode 63 was no exception. It was riddled with technical difficulties. Our guests, paranormal investigators Greg and Dana Newkirk, had warned us that Billy the Idol was known for corrupting and/or erasing files. Billy is, shall we say, NOT FOND OF TECHNOLOGY. After the show ended, I reviewed the mp3 file before putting it up on our podcast server. From the intro of Greg and Dana on, there was nothing but distortion. Stranger still - even though the show itself ran about 2 hours and 35 minutes, the length of the mp3 file - for whatever reason - clocked in at 3 hours and 19 minutes. None of this makes sense. Episode 63 was on its way to being the first officially "Lost" episode. Thankfully... and PURELY BY ACCIDENT, Greg had his Skype recorder running, so at the very least we were able to salvage the interview/investigation portion of the show, which runs about an hour and a half. For whatever reason, even though Joe, Dana, and Greg's audio was perfectly fine... mine sounded as if I were on another planet. Even more troublesome - during the show I was reading transcriptions of some of the EVPs that the Newkirks had provided. Not the best time for my audio to suck ass. We've done our best to fix my sound levels, but just in case, here are the transcriptions of the EVPs so you can listen and read along. Billy EVP 1: Greg: "Who is your owner?" Billy: "I don't have one" Greg: "What do you think about all these people in the room staring at you?" Billy: "Why are they staring?" Greg: "Would you rather be back in your sack?" Billy: "I live there." Greg: "Where are you from?" Billy: "From nightmares." Greg: "What do you want?" Billy: "I want... to come out!" Billy EVP 2: Event host: "Alright, just close your eyes and focus on the word 'GOAT'." Billy: "I am NOT a goat, John Tenney's a LIAR!" Billy EVP 3: Jeff: "...turn this recorder on, and setting it at the base of the Idol." Billy: "Hi!" Jeff: "Billy, where did Greg go?" Billy: "Outside, motherfucker! Hahaha!" Jeff: "Do you like it when Greg's gone?" Billy: "He's not gone, Jeff... he's in the HALLWAY!" Jeff: "Do you want him to come back?" Billy: "Come back, Greg!" Billy EVP 4: Greg: "Alright, Billy, this is the third group of the night. Can you say hi to everybody?" Billy: "Hi, everybody." Greg: "How do you think the night's been going so far?" Billy: "Pretty good!" Greg: "Can you tell everybody what you're real name is?" Billy: "I can't... it's a secret." Greg: "Are you happy to be hanging' out with Jeff again?" Billy: "I like Jeff." Greg: "What do you think about the Dark Mirror?" Billy: "Bad... energy." Greg: "Are you happy?" Billy: [unintelligible / laughter] Billy EVP 5: Greg: "Billy, why are you not letting us 3D scan your face?" Billy: "That's mine, fucker! Is it going to hurt me?" Greg: "Is there something you would like us to give you before you allow us to scan you?" Billy: "Yes." Jason: "Do you understand what we're doing?" Billy: "I don't want to be scanned." Paranormal investigators Greg and Dana Newkirk, who first appeared in Episode 33 of Brainwaves: Horror and Paranormal Talk Radio (listen here), returned for Episode 63 to talk about one of their most haunted objects, the doll known as Billy Idol. Even cooler, we joined them in an impromptu live on the air investigation of this curious curio. It’s radio without a safety net, kids. It’s Brainwaves: Horror and Paranormal Talk Radio. Who Goes There Podcast: Episode 129 – Jeepers Creepers
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Sat Aug 26 13:57:18 PDT 2017
Last week on facebook, we posted an article about Jeepers Creepers 3 being almost finished and the response was divided to say the least. While some expressed excitement at the continuation of the franchise, others called for a boycott of the film due to a 1988 conviction of the films director Victor Salva. Salva was convicted of sexual misconduct with an underaged boy and served 15 months in prison. hnn9q2xi With the release of Jeepers Creepers 3 on the horizon, the debate has resurfaced: should art be allowed to stand on it's own, regardless of who created it, or should the director and his films be boycotted because of something done 30 years ago? Tune in as we argue about it, and try to decide whether or not Jeepers Creepers is even good enough to want to see. You little turds are gonna learn you can't run from the ice cream man! Horrible Imaginings Podcast #176: Etheria Film Night 2017!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Wed Jun 07 17:16:08 PDT 2017
Hello, listeners! Sorry for the long break between episodes as we plan the next film festival, on top of me moving, my cat dying, a violent car accident, and a lot of other bullshit. This show is not about any of that, though, but about something fun instead! That's right... this past Saturday, June 3rd, was the fourth annual Etheria Film Night, an evening of short films that showcase women directors of genre cinema, be it horror, sci-fi, action, or fantasy. My good friends Stacy Pippi and Heidi Honeycutt have been kicking ass putting this together for years now, but I have had a hard time being able to make the trip until this year. Of course, I have to put this episode together to highlight the awesome films we saw! Joining me is Horrible Imaginings Outreach Director Sterling Anno, as well as the effervescent Tara Price, director of Etheria Film Night selection Earworm! In this episode we discuss each film, get some feedback from a popular NPR show host about a particular figure of speech, and laugh a lot. Who Goes There Podcast: Ep 152 – Cloverfield Paradox & The Ritual

Last week Netflix shocked the world by not only releasing a new trailer for Cloverfield Paradox during the Superbowl, but announcing the film would be available to stream right after the game. In a move no one saw coming, Netflix shook the film industry to it's very core. A few days later, Netflix quietly released horror festival darling: The Ritual. by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Thu Jan 11 20:35:21 PST 2018
Happy 2018, everyone! January is a time for new beginnings, striving to be the best you possible, and greeting each day with a positive attitude. January also has a history of being the time when movie studios dump the crap films they don't think will make any money. This January we're putting our positive attitude where our mouth is and giving Insidious: The Last Key the benefit of the doubt. But wait; there's more! As an added bonus, we're doubling down on good intentions and discussing a second movie! Act now and you'll also get thoughts and opinions on 1989's The Church! Don't delay! You can save about 5% on the price of erectile dysfunction medications at Costco: Cialis, Viagra, Levitra and Stendra. Even when you account for the fact that erectile dysfunction pills are sold in sizes that may have two doses or more in them, this isn’t the area where Costco’s pharmacies have the biggest discounts. Who Goes There Podcast: Ep 149 – Mom & Dad
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Sat Jan 27 17:19:04 PST 2018
Oh, boy. Boys and girl, it looks like Nick Cage is starting off 2018 at his most Cagiest. In his first horror film of 2018, Mr. Nicolas CooCoo Coppola dials his insanity meter up to eleven in Brian Taylor's Mom and Dad. Buckle up, because this movie is non stop chaos from start to finish. IMDB: A teenage girl and her little brother must survive a wild 24 hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origins causes parents to turn violently on their own kids. I think the point is to make us despair. To see ourselves as... animal and ugly. To make us reject the possibility that God could love us. It's the Who Goes There Podcast episode 149! Who Goes There Podcast: Episode 128 – Annabelle: Creation
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Aug 18 07:04:19 PDT 2017
We here at the Who Goes There Podcast love a good indie horror flick. This year alone we've covered some great independent films like Kuso, A Dark Song, and We Are The Flesh. However, for every diamond-in-the-rough indie film, there must be a major motion picture release that is being regurgitated for the tenth time. This bring us to present day, and the newest pile of major studio vomit is Annabelle: Creation. Everyone is talking about Annabelle: Creation. "Is it scary?" "Is it good?" "I bet it's filled with jump scares." "What is this stupid doll movie? Dolls aren't scary!" Fear not my chubby little bunnies for we are here to answer all your questions and more! Why? Because we're highly trained professionals, you sadists love when we watch films we're probably going to hate, and we're masochistic enough not to care, Let it be known, sons and daughters, that Satan was an acid head. Drink from his cup; pledge yourselves. And together, we'll all freak out. It's the Who Goes There Podcast episode 128! If you like what you hear, please consider joining our Patreon subscribers. Who Goes There Podcast: Episode 134 – Funny Games
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Oct 06 23:44:10 PDT 2017
In the four years we have been doing this show we have only had a handful of episodes that were so disastrous, they needed to be locked away, never to see the light of day. On even more rare occasions, we re-record said episode for all of you fine folks. This, is one of those episodes. You know that old saying, "it's the quiet ones you need to watch out for"? Well that goes for the shit show episode, AND this week's movie, the overly polite, home invasion thriller Funny Games! We'll also get some thoughts on Cult of Chucky, the new, insanely difficult game: Cuphead and someone wants to shave the Swedish guy. Oh boy. If you want to actually hear why we decided the first recording should be locked in a basement of a burning house, consider subscribing to our Patreon page. by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri May 12 13:21:13 PDT 2017
Guys, I'm kind of worried that we may be...maturing. For the last four weeks we've had very serious conversations about very serious movies, and this week the movie is in Spanish. What the actual fuck? In a last minute decision, (maybe we're not maturing after all) we chose to do the 2016, Shudder exclusive We Are The Flesh. Without giving too much away, we had no idea that we were in for an unnerving, hyper sexual, mind fuck of a journey. In addition to, whatever this film was, we talk about bloodshed at the ballpark, nightmares of the minuscule variety, penises, vaginas, and all that kinda thing. I can't come. I can't come! Who Goes There Podcast: Ep 138 – Lake Eden
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Sat Nov 04 02:02:28 PDT 2017
Australia has been cranking out some great horror films in the last decade, and it should come as no surprise. It makes sense that those wacky Aussies would know good horror; after all, they live in a country where every single thing, living or not, wants to kill you. This week we're throwing shrimp on the barbie, lookin' up your bum, and other stereotypical things as we discuss 2008's Eden Lake. Horrible Imaginings Podcast #182: 2 Sentence Horror Stories
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Nov 03 16:21:36 PDT 2017
In a recent trend of referring to popular web based content as a means of retelling the modern horror story, the amount of viable source material to draw upon seems to expand in measure quicker than said supply can be depleted. We’ve seen Youtube provide us with creepypasta born series such as Marble Hornets and SyFy has tuned us in to Channel Zero for two consecutive seasons, as of this publication. Turning to the online populous for the darkest & most effective material has proven fruitful thus far, allowing for a welcomed and less-traditional narrative structure to be executed when necessary. But aside from the telling and retelling of now familiar internet urban mythos, we have many alternative avenues of unnerving narrative to adapt. Some that would, at first glance, appear far too modest in length to concisely rework as a compelling visual device. Yet, Independent voice and executive producer Vera Miao has experienced quite the opposite while doing just that. Some, if not most of us, are familiar with the idea of 2 Sentence Horror Stories. For those who are not as acquainted with the idea, it couldn’t be more literal if we tried to make it so. These admittedly compact tales provide us with an entire feature’s worth of lore, all while keeping specifics at such a minimum, that we are already filling in these blanks with what our own psyche conjures up. It is upon finishing the climactic second half of these short stories that we swiftly find out how effective this simple literary device is at creeping us out. This of course allows for much room to spread one’s visionary wings, which Miao has done quite masterfully. Stage13, a subsidiary of Warner Bros Entertainment, has been the vessel to aid in Miao’s adaptation of this material, which has been delivered as a web based anthology series. As writer, show runner and occasional director of the series, this discussion describes the difficulties and blessings of working with a narrative so minuscule yet open-ended in order to derive an episodical end result. Another topic touched on is the fact that this series has been critical in the truthful on screen representation of varying culture, ethnicity and gender. This is admirably fitting, as in the year of Barry Jenkins, Jordan Peele and Patty Jenkins, we also have Vera Miao’s 2 Sentence Horror Stories - an unsung chapter in an all around progressive year for cinematic diversity. All currently available episodes of 2 Second Horror Stories can be viewed for free by visiting www.Stage13.com. Subscribe to the Horrible Imaginings Podcast right here. You can also listen here on Dread Central or on the Horrible Imaginings website. You can help keep the podcast, the film festival, and our horror community going for only $1 per month! Who Goes There Podcast: Ep 133 – Se7en
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Fri Sep 29 20:21:59 PDT 2017
We're hopping into the way-back machine to the year 1995, a simpler time when Jim Carrey would use his butt to talk and people listened to "alternative" music. While we were nerding out over "NewsRadio" and "Mr. Show," the rest of the country was falling in love with Brad Pitt. In 1995, Brad Pitt teamed up with David Fincher and Morgan Freeman to make Se7en;, a movie about bad things happening to bad people, because God. Join us; we're gonna find out what sin we would be killed for, and how we'd be done in; it's gonna be a hoot! Plus, we're testing out Jorge's theory that "everything from the 90's is amazing!" Horrible Imaginings Podcast #183: Films to Watch at San Diego Asian Film Festival 2017!
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Thu Nov 09 08:38:05 PST 2017
Hello everyone! As you know, this is a horror genre podcast but it is also a film festival official podcast, and we are trying to increase our content that has to do with film festival missions and purposes from the start so let’s start with an element in the film festival world that I am particularly a proponent of: collaboration. From my point of view, this is in the effort to serve two main purposes: To promote the filmmakers of new innovative and exciting independent cinema To build a community of general audience members who are smart, enthusiastic, and eager to learn more about the art of cinema There are parts of our mission statement, and every mission statement that differ or go beyond those things, but I would say those are the two main umbrella purposes. In my view, we fill those needs better and with greater power when we work together, expose each other’s audiences to different types of films, and learn from each other’s experiences. Not only that, but I get the opportunity to experience a number of fantastic film festivals year in and year out, which is no small benefit! This week includes one of the best here in San Diego. With their 18th year about to kick off on Thursday, November 9th, Pac Arts Movement’s San Diego Asian Film Festival has spent almost two decades celebrating Pan-Asian media arts and the creators of those arts with over a week of films, panels, discussions, and more. They also do year-round programs, work with schools in youth outreach efforts, and generally help with some much needed enrichment of San Diego Arts and Culture. I am happy to have my friend, the Artistic Director of Pac Arts Movement, Brian Hu here to chat with us about this year’s offerings. It is amazing to get him just one day before his madness begins, so thank you, Brian! In this episode, we discuss: What Brian Hu's role is in the San Diego Asian Film Festival The variety of films and the importance of genre How genre helps SD Asian Film Fest meet their mission statement MYSTERY KUNG FU THEATER A watch list for all of you! Who Goes There Podcast: Ep 151 – Meet the Feebles
by @ Dread Central Podcasts
Sun Feb 11 21:50:31 PST 2018
Last episode some listeners were a little disturbed by all of the talk about vomit. This week we're making vomit fun again, with puppets! Before Peter Jackson was making movies about giant apes and wandering hobbits, he made Meet the Feebles; a movie full of sex, vomit, shit eating, Vietnam flashbacks, and heroin abuse. Oh yeah, and it all revolved around puppets. Did you write a song about your undying love for sodomy? Or, maybe you're just a panty sniffing pachyderm, who got suckered into making a snuff film? If so, this one's for you! We stopped including the actual song in the episode due to copyright issues. So here is the chosen song: Master of Puppets by Metallica.
